Thanks to our technical expertise in the infrastructure sector, EQUANS is able to offer a comprehensive range of intelligent mobility solutions that help to improve mobility in cities.
Improving the mobility experience through dynamic management
In Namur, EQUANS participated in the design and implementation of an integrated transport data management system, known as an Intelligent Transport System (ITS). It is a comprehensive solution that enables the city of Namur to manage mobility across the whole city, in a dynamic way. With this system, users travelling to and from Namur receive precise updates on the traffic situation in real time, integrating the different modes of transport. The city of Namur is therefore in a position to guide the behaviour of its users and offer the best multimodal accessibility. EQUANS has joined forces with its partners ENGIE Tractebel and Macq, to design a tailor-made solution taking into account the specific features of the city.
Intelligent infrastructure for sustainable transport
The ITS installed in Namur has three stages: collecting information related to traffic and the environment; processing data and managing it in an integrated way; and disseminating information to users and managers. In addition to the construction survey and project management, EQUANS was also responsible for the supply and installation of the equipment on the ground. This included, information sensors such as CCTV cameras, ANPR cameras, parking sensors, air quality sensors and user displays such as information panels. EQUANS also installed a fibre optic communication network, which enables connections between the different equipment. The centralised management system for the collected data was developed by Macq. Our sister company ENGIE Tractebel created the mobility scenarios.
An integrated system with multiple benefits
This integrated system will improve the flow of traffic towards the city centre, promote multimodal transport and indirectly improve air quality in Namur. In addition, thanks to an app and website, it will allow users to indicate the best and fastest route to their destination and the level of availability in car parks.
