Nippon Shokubai Europe (BU super-absorbents) investeert in een uitbreiding van hun bestaande fabriek nabij Antwerpen. In 2015 kreeg Equans het contract voor de installatiewerken van de nieuwe Acrilyc Acid fabriek (perceeloppervlakte van 80m x 220m). De werken startten in 2016 en amper twee en een half jaar later was de nieuwe productie-eenheid operationeel.
Productie-uitbreiding
Nippon Shokubai is een Japanse producent van katalysatoren en superabsorberende polymeren die worden gebruikt voor producten zoals luiers. Om zijn productiefaciliteiten voor superabsorberende polymeren in Europa uit te breiden, bouwde het bedrijf een nieuwe acrylzuurfabriek van 350 miljoen euro in Antwerpen, België. Deze uitbreiding voegde 100.000 ton/jaar toe vanaf mei 2018, bijna een verdrievoudiging van de vorige capaciteit van 60.000 ton/jaar op de Antwerpse locatie. In totaal verhoogde het project de wereldwijde capaciteit voor superabsorbers en acrylzuur van Nippon Shokubai tot respectievelijk 710.000 ton/jaar en 880.000 ton/jaar.
Een bijzonder complex project
Vanwege de hoge complexiteit van dit multitechnologische project kozen de eigenaar van de activa Nippon Shokubai, het ingenieursbedrijf Jacobs en de belangrijkste aannemers, waaronder Equans, ervoor om een alliantiecontract aan te gaan. In een dergelijk bedrijfsmodel worden winsten, verliezen en risico's gedeeld tussen de partners. Hierdoor konden de partners kosten elimineren en uitgaven beperken, conflicten gemakkelijker oplossen en de algehele prestaties verbeteren. Er werd een gezamenlijke organisatie opgezet om het project zo soepel mogelijk te laten verlopen. Equans en haar alliantiepartners presteerden perfect in lijn met de gezamenlijk geformuleerde doelstellingen.
Een sterke prestatie en team inspanning
Equans investeerde in totaal ongeveer 430.000 manuren (direct & indirect) tussen medio 2016 en eind 2018. De werkzaamheden en diensten omvatten project- en constructiemanagement, inkoop van 20% van het bulkmateriaal voor de pijpleidingen, prefabricage en installatie van pijpleidingen en apparatuur, inkoop van elektrische en instrumentatiematerialen (E&I) in bulk, steigers en assistentie tijdens de inbedrijfstelling. Deze nieuwe alliantiebenadering is waarschijnlijk een model voor de toekomst, omdat het de complexiteit voor de klant enorm vereenvoudigt. De partners stroomlijnen het werk en voeren effectievere aanbestedingen uit. Aangezien alle partners de pijn en de winst van het project delen, is dit een succesvolle drijfveer voor efficiëntie in grote multitechnologische constructies. De ontwikkeling van de acrylzuurfabriek van Nippon Shokubai was een succesvol voorbeeld van zo'n intensievere samenwerking via een alliantiecontract.
